excellent book. I like the technical genetics information discussing each gene mutation. There was enough to keep me interested yet not so much to confuse someone with minimal exposure to basic genetics. I hope that edition 3 is in the works to update us on recent findings.

The book Horse Genetcs Second Edition by Dr Samantha Brooks and Dr Earnest Bailey is an excellent source of information for students new to Equine Genetics. It is written in very technical terms, but in such a way unknowledgeable people can perceive the subject. It covers most equine breeds in the U S today and highlights the specific potential problems that iare common with each breed. History of equine genetics and DNA development is presented and discussion of fast-moving technology and how fast changes occur because of it are presented. The book is an excellent reference for horse breeders as it points out the good and bad points of each breed, as mentioned above. Dr Brooks and Dr Bailey have produced an excellent text books for students wanting a single place to find information about today's horses vis-a-vis horse color, parentage, equine diseases, etc. The book is very thorough and well written.
